Your life is already a miracle of chance waiting for you to shape its destiny.

~Toni Morrison

So I read those words today and they just sort of struck me in that place where you ask yourself what am I doing with this one life?

It can be inordinately easy to take the easy way of the ordinary and not move beyond it.

So easy to settle for less than extraordinary.

Less than amazing.

Less than authentic.

It’s more work to see the spark of the Divine in the dream that’s hiding in your heart. It takes courage and yes, faith, to see that there is more in you than what the world sees.

But the thing is, your life is waiting, hoping that you will do the brave thing and shape it into something gloriously amazing.

It can seem daunting. Of course, I know this. We all know this. To take God up on his offer of who you really are, and step out onto the stage of life showing up fully and honestly can seem like the hardest thing in the world.

It just may be the hardest thing in the world.

But it’s also the only way to create a truly lived life.

Daunting? Yes. But not impossible.

There are lots of things you’ll never do. Things I’ll never do. Life is achingly short, and there isn’t time enough for everything.

But there is always a way to carve out a sliver of time to take a step or two towards your dream. Always a way to become more of who you are and less of who the world keeps insisting you be.

Because the world doesn’t get to shape your destiny unless you give it that power. Don’t.

The world doesn’t need more of the same. There’s enough of that to go around. The world needs – we need – authentic people who show up as themselves and dare to dream and dare to encourage others to dream too. The world needs us to reach for stars and cheer each other on and be brave about giving grace to ourselves and everyone else.

The world needs us to show up real and honest and honestly know that this one life is already a miracle, and we really can shape its destiny to match what’s in our heart.

I can.

And you can too.
