I lie to myself.

Daily.

So do you, so do we all.

We underestimate what we’re capable of, deny that we have any special gifts, and oh boy are we unforgiving of our own mistakes.

Frankly, we’re more likely to extend grace to others – the friend, even the stranger – than we are to give it to ourselves.

We are, in short, the very person who is holding us back.

We are the one who tells our self that we really don’t have what it takes. That we really can’t do it

That we’ll never make it happen.

We lie.

And hey, we believe it because who knows us better than our own self?

Sometimes you just need to ignore yourself.

And yeah, feel free to ignore any and all 3:00 am self-criticism, doubt, fear, and shame.

The truth, the real truth that’s not so clouded with self-doubt and fear, is that you are able to do so much more than what you think you can do.

And the funny thing is that I think we all know this. We can, when pressed, all come up with a myriad of examples from our lives of when we accomplished something amazing – something that we didn’t even know we could do.

The trouble is, we don’t often press ourselves to remember those. Instead, we remember the times we fell short, failed, lost.

Seems like it’s human nature to remember the negative more than the positive.

But might we change that, by ignoring the unhelpful negative self-talk, and focusing instead on the positive?

I have no idea what you’re called to do. I’m certain it’s something amazing and wonderful. Something that delights you and will delight the world once you share it with us.

I’m hoping you will share it with us. Because we really do need the gift that you have to give.

The gift that only you can give the world.

And me? I’m hoping that you’ll go ahead and ignore yourself when you’re just not being helpful.
