Help! I have no idea what my dream is!

So there you are, living your life and minding your own business and it’s not so bad but…

…you realize that you’re just kind of…surviving.

You don’t wake up super-psyched to start each day, but then again you don’t wake up bummed out to have to start it either.

You’re just kind of…in the middle of the mundane.

And you long for more. You so long for more. You read motivational blogs and listen to podcasts and watch videos and you’re sure that the way out of the monotony and mundanity is to live your passion. It’s everywhere you look, this phrase. Live your passion. Follow your passion. Chase your passion. And you so want to do this.

There’s just this one thing, though: you have no idea what your passion is.

This could be a problem.

But does it really have to be? Sure, knowing what your dream actually is, is probably preferable. But if you don’t know what it is, all this means is that you haven’t discovered it yet. And yes, dreams are totally discover-able. If you’re curious enough.

So, the only question that you have to answer is this: are you curious? About anything? Does anything interest you, even a little bit? Is there something, anything, that you want to learn more about?

Follow that. See where it leads you. Have fun with it. Be a kid again, learning something new and interesting.

See, the thing is, this quest to follow your curiosity does not have to lead you straight into a new career, a new hobby, or a new anything. All it has to do is to lead you someplace new.

Your interest in photography might lead you to sign up for a class or just buy a camera and click away. If it does, please – have at it! It might be the beginning of a passion, or it might just be a really fun thing that you do because it’s interesting. And when it’s not interesting anymore, you go find something else that you’re curious about.

You may find that you’ve spent days, weeks, months learning new things, having a lot of fun, and not finding your passion at all.

Still, I would argue that spending days, weeks, or months having a lot of fun is not a bad way to spend that time.

And yes, you may very well uncover a nugget of truth or soul-wisdom that leads you to discover your passion. I hope you do. That would be awesome. But if it doesn’t happen right away, I hope you keep on honoring and following your curiosity.

And I hope you have so much fun doing it.
