There’s a secret to success.

A real secret. Not just a wanting-it-so-much-you-manifest-it-by-wanting-it-so-much sort of secret. Not that wanting it so much is a bad thing. In fact, that just might be a most necessary first thing.

But wanting alone is not enough. Visualization, without putting some skin on the vision, is pointless. Because dreams only become realities when we’re willing to put in the work.

When we really do something.

You want to get ahead, get somewhere with this dream that you’re intent on pursuing, right?

Well, here’s the secret to getting there:

get started.

Just that. Just that simple. You will never achieve anything if you don’t start.

No race was ever won by the one who sat on the sidelines. No building ever got built by someone who never laid down a foundation and nailed the frame together. No painting ever got painted by someone who never picked up a paintbrush.

And your dream will never become real, until you start living it.

Mark Twain said that “the secret of getting ahead is getting started” and yeah, that just about sums it up.

You can let fear stop you. You can let perfectionism stop you. You can let the odds (whatever those are) stop you. But the thing is – all of these things that stop you, are things that you’re allowing to stop you. Quite frankly, you’re choosing to sit on the sidelines.

But you can choose something different.

You can choose to go ahead and try, despite the fear. You can choose to go ahead and take action, despite knowing that you won’t be perfect on the first go-round. You can chose to go ahead and say “thanks for the info” to the odds and then just go do it.

The choice is yours, and only yours.

So what will you choose? You’ve got twenty-four hours today.

You can use some of them to begin to work towards that dream. Or you can ignore your dream. You can ignore yourself (something we all do far too much). You can tell yourself that you’re just not good enough.

Can I just tell you one thing, right now, and yeah it’s something you can take to the bank – you are good enough.

Maybe you’ve got some learning to do. But if you have the dream, then you can learn. You can always learn.

Start where you are, no matter where you are.

Will you be an overnight success? Probably not. Not many people are. In fact, probably no one is. Probably, if their stories are true, the people who “make it” have worked on their dream, their passion, their craft for a long time.

And so can you. But only, oh only, if you start.

The secret is to start.

So today, maybe? Maybe today you can put the excuses away and pick up the rest of your tomorrows and start?

Oh, and when you become a success?

Make sure you let someone who’s wondering how in the world to do it know the secret.
