It’s still sort of steamy around here. Days and days of hot and I’m not exactly complaining but my lawn kind of is. It’s looking all overgrown and a bit wilted and brown and I’m not sure that ninety degrees in the shade is the kind of weather I want to be mowing in, so I’ve taken a breather from that chore.

Sometimes you just need to take a breather and step away from the hard and hot parts of life. Cool down and refresh with the gift of just-not-doing.

Yeah, but it’s sort of hard to stop-doing when you think that it’s the doing that makes you worthwhile.

Hard to rest when you’re thinking that the rest of the world won’t think you’re quite up to the task.

Can I just whisper quiet-like in your ear and tell you something true and real?

You are worthy and more than worthy. No matter how much you produce or how many things you tick off the to-do list or how many hours you push yourself to do more and be more and try more.

The truth is that you are worthy and amazing and strong and beautiful, no matter how overgrown or wilted or just plain tired and in need of some tending you are.

You’re worth the tending. Worth the break. Worth the rest.

Do you believe this?

Do you know this?

That you are capable of loving fiercely and living courageously and the power is inside you to be all that you want to be, need to be, were made to be,  but you don’t actually have to be anything in order to be worthy of love and worthy of joy and worthy of rest.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

You deserve rest.

You deserve love.

You, who are made of the same stuff as the stars, deserve stardust always in your eyes.

Do you know this? Do you believe it?

Because this knowing – this is how you know who you truly are, and Whose you truly are.

The key to unlocking the real self is to believe in the real self.

We’re made of the same stuff as the stars, so why isn’t stardust always in our eyes? Why doesn’t magic simply sprinkle itself out of our fingertips? Why don’t we count ourselves worthy of a little resting? A little tending? A bit of a break now and then?

Maybe we’re all just missing the point. Maybe we’re all just buying into the buying and the selling and the doing instead of just resting in the being who we really are.

Resting in the Love that says yes, you really are worthy and amazing and strong and beautiful – just the way you are.
