It’s that time of year again.

Orange traffic cones are springing up everywhere like flowers announcing spring to the mess of drivers trying their best to maneuver around the mess.

And yeah, lots of detours.

Which is fine, right? Better to take an alternate route and a bit more time than to take the risk of popping a tire or damaging a wheel rim. You’ll still get where you’re going and with far less wear and tear on your tires.

Driving in the spring is a challenge, especially for those of us with a limited supply of patience. Detours that take us out of our way and take way too much time, potholes that slow us down as we try to make our way around them, and a veritable mess of traffic with all of us just trying to make our way through the mess. It all just takes way more time than we think it should.

Sometimes our goals take longer to reach than we think they should, too.

But here’s the thing: you don’t turn around and head back home when your route gets re-routed. You just take another route. Another way.

Of course, when you’re driving to work or to the soccer field or to the grocery, you have the benefit of detour signs that someone’s put there, letting you which way you should go.

Well, usually there are detour signs.

Okay, sometimes there are signs.

But there’s always GPS.

There’s always another way to get to where you’re going.

And sure, you may not have detour signs or GPS or a road map letting you know which way to go when your plan or project or dream hits a roadblock. But I promise that you do have the ability to figure it out with your billions of brain cells.

Also the internet can be a help.

But the honest truth is that this is just life, whether you’re raising a family or raising your ambitions. You’ll always encounter some sort of pothole or roadblock. Life is messy.

But you can still move forward.

It’s a process, always a process.

Sometimes with lots of detours, true, but even though the detours might re-route you, they don’t have to stop you.

There’s no need to turn around and go home or go back or give up.

You can find another way.

There’s always another way to get to where you want to go.
