Keep walking, though there’s no place to get to.
Don’t try to see through the distances. That’s not for human beings.
Move within, but don’t move the way fear makes you move.
Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study
and begin reading. Take down a musical
instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the
ground.
~Rumi
Hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.
So Rumi said, and yes, I believe him.
Your way. My way. Your best friend’s way or your brother’s way or your sister’s way or the stranger’s way.
Hundreds of ways to kneel, to reverence, to be amazed at amazing grace.
Hundreds of ways to notice beauty, open the heart, embrace the world and the neighbor and the stranger and your very own self, and accept the mundane and the messy and the different and the difficult, and not turn away.
There are, in fact, hundreds of ways, or maybe even more, to let the beauty you love, that the thing you so love, be what you do.
Hundreds of ways.
If you’ll be brave enough to try.
I think you are.
